I am enraged!!! Point blank, I am appalled by the spectacle of Washington, D.C. The White House and Congress are working together to undermine, or more accurately, destroy the Constitution. This isn’t some old document that isn’t relevant. This document laid the moral foundations of our nation. But a document such as our Constitution is only relevant if the principles that inspired it remain. Those principles are: limited government and the protection of individual rights. It has taken 100 years to get where we are today.
Republicans and Democrats are guilty of usurping our law as an attempt at seeking power over the citizenry. We are now at a precipice. Our economy is in shambles. This isn’t hyperbole, this is fact. At this stage, the White House is aided by Congress to implement a bill that will give complete control of our healthcare industry to government. So much for checks and balances. Lets take a moment to digest this. The United States of America is BROKE!!! Yet, the hacks in D.C. would have us believe that passing this monstrosity will somehow not contribute to the growing $12 trillion deficit. We are supposed to believe that government controlled healthcare will give everyone access to medical care, without compromising the patient/physician relationship or raising the deficit. We are suppose to believe that our economy is in a recovery, yet its a “jobless recovery”.
There’s a method to this madness. The President of The United States and his minions in Congress want to turn Americans into medieval serfs; while they lord over us masses!! Why do they want to do this? It has everything to do with ideas. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, IDEAS MATTER!! The ideas that have led to this disaster are so obvious to me. But it takes it an active mind to find out the right ideas that can avert us from driving over a cliff.
I want to direct your attention to two articles from two different books that can explain how we got to this place. Both essays are from Ayn Rand. It should be no surprise that I reference Rand’s work regularly. She developed a philosophical system called Objectivism. She was only one in the field of Philosophy to offer answers in the areas of economics and ethics. What we are dealing with now falls squarely in those realms.
The first essay entitled Egalitarianism and Inflation, is published in Philosophy: Who Needs It. I’ve read this book so many times it’s literally falling apart. What she says packs a punch between government, the ethics of altruism and inflation. Rand explains the mentality of an egalitarian (which Obama definitely is):
The mental process underlying the egalitarians’ hope to achieve their goal consists of three steps: 1. they believe that that which they refuse to identify does not exist; 2. therefore, human ability does not exist; and 3. therefore, they are free to devise social schemes which would obliterate this nonexistent.
This is precisely the mentality at work in D.C. This bill is so bad and so destructive to our economy, they will pass this without voting on it. Even though this is counter to what the Constitution explicitly says. Quote:
Article 1, Section 7: Every Bill which shall have passed in the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it.(Bold added)
Juxtapose that statement to the bad behavior in D.C. I think the Founding Fathers are turning in their graves at this spectacle.
The second essay from Rand is called The Inverted Moral Priorities. This essay is in The Voice of History, edited by Leonard Peikoff. This essay details the consequences of the constant class warfare espoused by the media and by politicians seeking to win elections. The continued denigration of wealth and business in particular has been endemic in our culture. This need to constantly slander success, and implicitly our capitalist system-leads to ignorance of fundamental economic principles. Rand states:
Most people seem to believe that wealth is primarily an object of consumption-that the rich spend all or most of their money on personal luxury. Even if this were true, it would be their inalienable right-but it does not happen to be true. The percentage of income which men spend on consumption stands in inverse ratio to the amount of their wealth. the percentage is of no significance to a country’s economy. The money of the rich is invested in production; it is an indispensable part of the stock seed that makes production possible.(Bold added)
Rand goes further in discussing what constitutes an industrial society. Stating:
The hallmark of an industrial society is its members’ distance from a hand-to-mouth mode of living; the greater this distance, the greater men’s progress. The major part of this country’s stock seed is not the fortunes of the rich (who are a small minority), but the savings of the middle class-i.e., of responsible men who have the ability to grasp the concept “future” and to deposit on dollar (or more) into a bank account. (Bold added)
This bill’s financing will come directly from the middle class. We are the life blood of the country. All the taxation, all the government financing comes from US. Rand makes clear that only capitalism has a middle class. She says that the middle class:
is the heart, the lifeblood, the energy source of a free, industrial economy, i.e., of capitalism; it did not and cannot exist under any other system; it is the product of upward mobility, incompatible with frozen social castes. (Bold added)
I hate to say it, but I have to put the blame for this chaos on the American public. We have allowed politicians too much leeway into our lives. This encroachment spans decades. Americans swallowed their lies hook, line and sinker. But not realizing they are being robbed blind. The educational establishment has dumbed-down the country to such a level; understanding basic principles is nearly impossible for many. This inability to understand the world, leads to individuals ready to sacrifice their lives and lives of their children to politicians who will promise anything to get elected. Inevitably, a kind of passivity has taken over. Americans have continually re-elected these crooks. People believed the “hope and change” dogma from a Marxist. Any time the officials in the White House routinely reference Communism and its henchman (specifically Chairman Mao), one can easily connect the dots.
The road we are travelling is unsustainable. I’m mentally preparing myself for the worse. The main reason why I started Bookish Babe was to get the word out!! To have people research for themselves the books I recommend to, impart knowledge. We are in big trouble! I’m discouraged, but I WILL NOT give up!!! I want to live in a country where its founding principles matter. I want to be left alone to live my life as I see fit. I want YOU to be able to live your own lives as you see fit!! This means an intellectual revolution is needed. Please educate yourselves!!! We do not have a lot of time.
